New afterword to Rise of the Self-Replicators

I am pleased to announce the publication of a new afterword to our book Rise of the Self-Replicators, featuring several relevant sources that have come to my attention since the book was published.

The most significant additions to the history covered in the afterword are from the German-born nineteenth-century inventor and utopian John Adolphus Etzler in the 1830s–40s, the Hungarian author and satirist Frigyes Karinthy in 1916, and the US mathematician and computer scientist Fred Stahl in 1960.

The afterword is published in the thirtieth anniversary edition of the Artificial Life journal (vol. 30, no. 1, 2024).

Full details of the afterword, including a link to a free author-formatted preprint of the paper, can be found here.
