Repressors and the Repressor Store

The Repressor Store is a list of repressors, but, unlike in the Promoter Store, any or all of the repressors on the list may potentially be active at the same time. When a new repressor is added to the store, a search is made for a binding site on the genome,4.8 in a similar way as for the active promoter. If a binding site is found, the repressor is said to be bound to the corresponding area of the genome, and that area of the genome is said to be repressed. If, during translation of the genome, the read position moves onto a repressed site, translation ceases at that point and the current promoter is deactivated.
