Promoters and the Promoter Store

The Promoter Store is an ordered list of promoters. Only the promoter currently at the top of the list is active at any given time. The active promoter specifies the position along the genome4.6 at which translation will begin. When a new promoter becomes active, a search is made along the genome for a pattern of bits that matches the promoter bit string.4.7 If a matching region is found, the promoter is said to have bound to that region, and translation of the genome begins from the first bit to the right of the binding region. If no binding site is found for the active promoter, or when the translation of the current section of genome is terminated (e.g. when the Read position reaches the end of the genome, when it reaches a repressed region, or when a stop instruction is encountered), the active promoter is deactivated and placed at the bottom of the list in the Promoter Store, and the promoter which is now at the top of the list becomes active.
