Complexity.

The distinctions proposed by McShea, described in Section 2.3.2, will be adopted here, so we will not use the term `complexity' unqualified. As the major evolutionary transitions described in Section 2.3.4 were critical points in the evolution of life on Earth, we will be especially interested in investigating hierarchical complexity (primarily hierarchical object complexity) in artificial evolutionary systems.
